Alarm Monitoring

Without the proper tools and resources finding the exact location of a network fault (break / degradation) is very challenging and risks extended downtimes and lost productivity for your end users. OSPInsight’s Alarm Monitoring Add-On provides you with the tools you need to address cable breaks and get clients back up and running on your network with little interruption.

Using a Remote Fiber Test System (RFTS), an OSPInsight technician receives an email or SMS with the proper information to find a network fault. The technician then takes the information and enters it into the OSPInsight Find Fault Tool to find the exact location of each fault based on the information that the user has added to their database.

Benefits of the Alarm Monitoring Add-On:

  • Brings visibility of Remote Fiber Test System (RFTS) across an organization
  • Layer 1 active monitoring
  • Remove complexity
  • Reduce time to provisioning
  • Build quality assurances
  • Field Testing – Reduce: Time to repair, truck rolls

What is the OSPInsight Find Fault Tool?

Using the optical result of an Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) trace to identify the location of a network fault (break / degradation) an OSPInsight technician can input those measurements into the OSPInsight Find Fault Tool and find the exact location of each fault based on the information that the user has added to their database.

OSPInsight utilizes the information that you input into the database including:

  • Slack Loops
  • Maintenance Storage
  • Scale Factor
  • Built to exacting standard of ± 3 meters

What is a Remote Fiber Test System (RFTS)?

An RFTS is a rack mounted Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) connected to an optical switch. Benefits of an RFTS include:

  • Round Robin test sequence
  • Log the results if thresholds are exceeded generate an alarm
  • Notify users via email or SMS
  • Send alarm to OSPInsight

Use cases for an RFTS?

  • Service availability by monitoring the fiber integrity in real-time
    (out of band)
  • Service Level Agreement (SLA) assurance
  • Customer confidence
  • Revenue protection
  • Proactive vs. reactive

How does OSPInsight find faults?

When a fault causes service to go down, you need to be able to identify both the suspect cable and the exact location of the physical break in order to remedy the situation. Without the proper tools and resources, this is very challenging and risks extended downtimes and lost productivity for your end users.
